CCA Root Expiring - Read All Information About Old and New Root Certificate
Our CCA has issued a new Root called 2022 and the same would be integrated with all the applications in the coming months.
Capricorn CA (Capricorn Cash Portal) already has capabilities to handle multiple CCA roots in our system, and you would have an option to issue a digital signature certificate in 'Capricorn 2014' (Existing and Old Root) or 'Capricorn 2022' (New Root).
If you get the old root certificate before or on 5.03.2022 you will avail of full validity of 2 years, if you get the certificate after the above-mentioned date, still the validity will expire on 5.03.2024 and you will miss out on the respective days of validity.
Any days missed in your old root certificate's usage will be compensated by the company.
For example - If you get it on 10th March’22, You will still not be able to use it after 5th March’24 and you will have 5 less days of usage. To compensate for the days missed by you, the company will issue a new certificate for you whose validity will be for 5 days.

Why are these options even there? What is the importance of each of them?
In the case of a certificate, there is a ROOT CHAIN that is followed to provide the user with the DSC which is as follows (trust-flows from top):-
CCA INDIA 2014 -> Capricorn CA 2014 -> User Certificate
As the CCA INDIA, 2014 root certificate is valid till 05/03/2024 all 2 years of DSC that are downloaded after this date would get invalidated on 05/03/2024, even though your DSC has been issued for 2 Years, but you technically cannot use the certificate after this date.
To ensure that there is no problem for you and for your clients, we would be taking consent from YOU and FROM YOUR CLIENT that they are aware of the fact that the DSC would become invalidated after 05/03/2024.
In the Transition phase, we would be showing two Roots (Old Root) and (New Root), as and when the newer root gets integrated in various portals (Like GST, IncomeTax, MCA) we would allow our users to download the certificates from the new root.
Why are we not providing the CAPRICORN 2022 NEW ROOT CERTIFICATE right now? Why is that option unclickable?
If we provide a NEW ROOT issued certificate to the END-USER right now then that certificate will not work anywhere, because the New Root certificate is in the Integration stage and we have to integrate the new root certificate on all the INDIAN GOVERNMENT WEBSITES and that process takes some time, we do not want YOUR clients to face any hardship.
Once the integration process is complete then we will give the NEW ROOT option for the issuance of the DSC.
Till the time the NEW ROOT is not fully propagated, we would continue to issue DSC in Old Root (CAPRICORN 2014) because that certificate is valid for every INDIAN OR NON INDIAN GOVERNMENT WEBSITES and ADOBE ACROBAT TRUST LIST.
Will our old certificate work after the new root integration?
Yes, the old certificate will work as usual. The new certificate is independent from the working of the old certificate. Don’t worry about that account. Your stocks are also ALL SAFE, Don’t Worry.

WHAT IS EXACTLY A DSC & ROOT CERTIFICATE?
DSC i.e. Digital Signature Certificate is the digital equivalent of a physical or paper certificate. Like the physical documents are signed manually, likewise, digital documents are required to be signed digitally using a digital signature certificate.
It serves the same purpose as a normal signature that we do on various documents to attest our identity. It just happens digitally on digital documents through a digital signing certificate.
Just like there is a driver’s license which is a physical certificate helping in proving a person’s identity, In the same way, there are digital signing certificates affirming a person’s identity on any official document.
A digital signature certificate (DSC) contains information about the user’s name, pin code, country, email address, date of issuance of the certificate, and name of the certifying authority.
A root certificate that comes under DSC is a self-signed certificate. It is the top-most certificate of the tree and is based on the ITU-T X. 509 standard. A certifying authority (CA) issued root certificate will contain (among other data) the name of the end entity, the name of the CA, the end entity's public key, a validity period, and a certificate serial number.

But not anymore, digital signing can be done in bulk for hundreds of documents in a single click.
COST-EFFECTIVE - All that paper is saved. All the hassle is removed. And everything happens so quickly, digitally. This makes the cost of the whole process come down way low which is quite frankly amazing.
WHO ISSUES A DIGITAL SIGNATURE CERTIFICATE?
A licensed Certifying Authority (CA) issues the digital signature. Certifying Authority (CA) means a person who has been granted a license to issue a digital signature certificate under Section 24 of the Indian IT-Act 2000.
